L-Acoustics A Series Goes Underground on Nashville Rooftop

et now - 27 feb 2020

“When Nashville Underground first opened its doors on Lower Broadway two years ago, the four-level music venue, restaurant, bar, and event space co-owned by singer-songwriter brothers Joey and Gavin DeGraw added a new and exciting justification for Nashville’s Music City moniker. Boasting the city’s highest and largest rooftop deck, a double-level one at that, the impressive space is also home to two kitchens, four bars, and three stages plus a DJ booth that host live music seven days a week. To bring these performances to life, Nashville Underground invested in a new L-Acoustics A Series system provided by Camarillo, California-based Rat Sound Systems.

‘When Nashville Underground operating partner Joshua Pemberton called me, he was looking to bring more high-calibre artists into the venue. He needed a powerful, high-fidelity sound system, but also needed it to be easy to set up, since it would be constantly moved between their multiple performance areas,’ says Rat Sound’s Dave Rat. …”

Rat Sound Deploys Outline Newton at Coachella 2019

Audio Media International - 23 apr 2019

Rat Sound Systems of Camarillo, California – now in their 19th year of providing sound reinforcement for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, debuted Outline’s Newton 16+8 audio processing units as their processor of choice at this year’s outing.

The Newton system combines new filter technology, multi-format audio signal routing, multi-format standards conversion and digital signal synchronisation in a single 1RU networkable chassis.

Considered perhaps as one of the most challenging audio signal processing and distribution events worldwide, the system satisfied a multitude of requirements in the festival and touring arenas.

Newton is positioned as Rat’s Front of House, through which each mixing console is connected and is then capable of addressing the myriad of digital and analogue connectivity options. Final mixes from FoH and Newton now are delivered directly to each of the stage’s PA’s or out to the delay tower systems that populate each of the seven stage locations. …”

Coachella Hits Low Frequencies with Help from Powersoft

AV MAGAZINE - 8 May 2018

“The Powersoft M-Force transducer was a crucial element of Rat Sound’s SuperSub subwoofer which took low-frequency sound to new levels at the Coachella music and arts festival. — At Coachella 2018, the engineering expertise of Powersoft Audio was manifest amidst a display of super-low frequency soundwave propagation for thousands of music fans. In the Sahara Tent, perhaps the biggest stage in the world for EDM music once per year, festival organisers pushed the boundaries of what is possible in sound design with an array of Rat Sound’s SuperSub cabinets — each driven by Powersoft’s M-Force moving magnet linear motor.

‘We are thrilled that our M-Force technology is once again at the cutting edge of sound design at Coachella, this time playing an integral role in the way that tens of thousands of fans are able to engage and interact in a major festival sound experience,’ commented Francesco Fanicchi, brand and communication director of Powersoft. ‘It is especially validating to our engineering team to know that we are able to bring such a massive sound experience to new heights through our innovation and design.’ …”

Sully Meets the Challenges for RHCP with Rat Sound and L-Acoustics

ET Now - 22 May 2017

USA – For more than 25 years, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been closely linked with Dave Rat who has manned the live concert mix for the Grammy Award-winning quartet since 1991. During that period, Rat has successfully grown his own tour sound company (Rat Sound) and been awarded two patents for innovative live sound products. As of February, however, the celebrated engineer has now passed the reins of mixing the band to Sean “Sully” Sullivan, another industry veteran having most recently manned front of house for Rihanna, Atoms For Peace and Beck.

Camarillo-based Rat Sound is continuing to provide the FoH control and monitor package for the band’s current Gateway World Tour, as well as the PA system for all of the band’s US dates. For the current trek, Sullivan is mixing an all-L-Acoustics system that he designed along with systems engineers Jim Locker and PA tech Radek Lesa. The system consists of two main hangs of 16 K1 over four K2 per side each flanked by eight K1-SB. An additional 16 K2 per side are flown as side hangs, with 15 Kara per side delivering coverage to the 270-degree wraparound seating areas. …”
